Non-Structural Ways To Improve Your Pool

If you have a pool on your property and are looking for ways to improve it, you should know that there are many non-structural changes you can make that will make it more enjoyable, safer, cleaner, etc. Structural improvements are nice and sometimes necessary, but it's good to know that you can also make smaller, less expensive changes. Here are some examples of effective non-structural ways you can improve your swimming pool.

Paint or Tiles

If you have an inground pool, you can change its bottom to improve grip or make it more stylish. You will need to empty the water first, but you can paint it different colors, add tiles, etc. Just be sure that the paint and tiles are safe for pools, so there aren't any problems with them being constantly submerged in water.

Lights

Pool lighting looks nice when done right, and you have many options. Pool lights look particularly impressive at night, the way they shine from under the water. You can choose from many colors, and many lights are easily attached to the sides of your pool.

Ladders and Rails

Trying to climb out of a pool without a ladder or steps is no fun. If you have steps, it's helpful to have a railing that people can hold onto while climbing the stairs. If you want to improve your swimming pool without making structural changes, you can install additional ladders and rails to make it easier to go in and out of the water.

Covers

You can put a cover over your pool when you're not using it, either at the end of the day or during colder times. There are many different cover styles, but they all do a great job of keeping out debris, so you don't have to clean the pool as often. A thermal cover will even heat your pool to make the water a little warmer when you swim.

Games

One way to make your pool more fun without making structural changes is to buy game equipment. You can install a net in the center of your pool for volleyball, badminton, etc., or a basketball hoop on the side of your pool. Believe it or not, some people get bored with swimming, so added game options will give people more reasons to go in the pool.

Automatic Cleaners

Cleaning your pool can be an exhausting experience, and it will get dirty quickly if you don't keep up with it. Instead, you could buy an automatic cleaner that will move around the bottom of your pool to suck up debris and filter the water. They're not too expensive and do a thorough job.
